  1. Advantages
  • The major advantage of hunting is to provide human with food. People eat almost all kind of animal meat such as of deer, pig, rabbit, duck, squirrel, dog and so on.
  • Hunting also provide fashionista with fashionable clothes made of fur and leather of different species. If in history, the Indian did not start killing buffalo for leather, human being would never be familiar to this kind of material.
  • Many people consider hunting as a sport. Not only chasing and shooting moving animal in forest or in high land, there are also many other different entertaining extra games and activities hunter get from hunting.
  • Few people know that hunting is a method of preventing natural imbalance between wild animal and human. It protects wild animal against over-population.
  • Many items used in our daily life is made from materials from animal like soap, livestock feed, paint, tires, ice cream, and construction materials.
  1. Disadvantages
  • Hunting kill many rare species on the edge of extinction. After every hunting season, the number of rare species about to be extincted increase steadily. For instance, black bear and wolves are two species going to be extincted because of hunting. 16 animal species are critically endangered: Amur Leopard, Black Rhino, Cross River Gorilla, hawksbill Turtle, Javan Rhino, Leatherback Turtle, Mountain Gorilla, Saola, South China Tiger, Sumatran Elephant, Sumatran Orangutan, Sumatran Rhino, Sumatran Tiger, Vaquita, Western Lowland Gorilla, Yangtze Finless Porpoise.+ Hunting cost hunter a great deal of money. They have to pay a wide range of fee to have a hunting trip for example, fee for equipment, for ticket, travel fee and so on. We will show you a short report of state expenditure on hunting in North Dakota:
  • Anglers and hunters in North Dakota is reported to spend $642.9 million dollars for hunting, specifically on travel, equipment, clothes, vehicles and so on.
  • In particular, resident hunters and anglers contributed to state total expenditures about $ 555.7 million dollars. Meanwhile, non-residents accounted for $78.6 million ones.
  • Hunting is also considerd an inhunmanity. Because many people believe that all living species have feeling and emotion just like human. Many hunters do not eat the animal meat; they just shoot or hurt it for fun. While animal have to suffer many pain, human consider it an entertainment. Are we too selfish that we just care about ourselves and dominate every other species?
  • A further consequence of hunting might be that we are teaching our new generation to become heartless through easily killing other living organisms.

Arguments For and Against Hunting white-tailed deer

August 24, 2014 in Hunting by Jacob E. Davis

Nowadays, although hunting is legal in a wide range of nations, it is still a very controversial problem in the world. On the battle field between anti-hunting spaziods and hunter and hunting approver, many statements, ideas and evidence given to protect their perspective. White-tailed deer is a critically endangered species so that it is the heart of many debates on natural preservation in the world in general and in the United States particularly. This article will focus on debate on white-tailed hunting legalization. It includes four parts: background, arguments for, arguments against and resolution.

  1. Background

Widely in the United States, the number of white-tailed deer decreases significantly because of the shortage of natural predators and deer-friendly habitat’s abundance. In general, the hidden cause of its reduction is hunting. The debate between hunter and anti-hunter continues to win the trophy and find solution for the species’ decreasing. They concentrate on practical and ethical issues consisting of deer management, conflicts of human and deer and non-lethal solution and safety.

  1. Supportive arguments

The biggest statement hunting approver gave is that hunting is non-dangerous, effective, essential and not expensive for taxpayers.

  • In comparison with some sports and physical activities such as football, volleyball, board-skating and so on, the injury rate in hunting is reported lower and less dangerous.
  • It is also argued that hunting can be a deer management method. It is because hunting separates a number of individual deer from its group and population zone so that we can prevent them from reproduction and overpopulation.
  • Another, deer reduction limits conflicts of human and deer along with prevent spread of deer into human living area and destroys harvest and in addition, controls disease of wildlife animal to cattle and poultry.
  • Hunters do not have to pay any fee for deer hunting. Therefore, it is inexpensive to taxpayers. However, they have to take part in hunting training and course to take a permission to hunt.
  • Deer hunting is also a tradition and custom from very early history and it is much better than let them starve to death.
  • Hunting nowadays is considered a sport helping improve local economy significantly.

In term of ethics, deer killing for food is nothing different from killing poultry like chicken, cow or goat. Moreover, deer live freely, separately with people; they do not have a close connection to human daily life. Besides, hunters argue that they always hunt ethically. They do not kill and chase infant deer, mother deer or expecting one. They try to capture single deer that does not have family.

Arguments Against

Opposite to the hunters, anti-hunter considered hunting unsafe, ineffective and inessential as well as unfair to taxpayers.

  • They point out hunting is a kind of unsafe recreation. Every year, there are about 100 people killed in accidents in hunting trips in the United States. Meanwhile, many other forms of recreation like gardening, planting, etc.
  • Anti-hunter also believes that hunting is no good for human and deer conflict control. It is showed that a plenty of car and deer collision is because hunters terrified deer so they try to run away from hunter and crash into car on the road.
  • Beside, it is proved deer does not bring disease to cattle and poultry. Most of diseases spread by mice and other insects. Deer never have purpose of attacking human living animal. What attract them to come to our area are flowers.
  • Hunting is not effective any more. While hunter argues that they hunter for reproduction control, states have to use many methods to stimulate its population development to ensure quantity of deer for hunting, for food and natural balance.
  • Lands for hunting area are sometimes purchased and maintained with an amount of money, even though, most of population does not hunt.
  • The main reason for environmental lover against hunting is related to ethical issues. For anti-hunter, deer in particular and animals in general have soul. So why do they have to suffer pain for human entertainment? It is really unethical and selfish.

Conclusion

Up to now, there is no final conclusion for ethical acceptation of hunting. There will be ever-increasing debate on hunting ethic.
